Well.

What a run!  The White Sox went 7-0 in their last homestand.  You know, the seven games after the famous tirade Ozzie went on.  Everyone says he lit a fire under them, it was a calculated move by a shrewd manager, and he gave them just the kick in the pants they needed to start producing some runs.

If you ask me, well, that may or may not be the case.  It doesn't make a difference.  Know what does?  Having a 6.5 game lead in our division.  That, by the by, is the largest gap in between a first- and second-place team in all of baseball right now.  The White Sox won three home games against Kansas City (outscoring them 21-11), but they went on an absolute tear against the Twins.  In three straight games (I was present at the second) the Sox scored at least 11 runs on at least 15 hits!  If that doesn't deserve an exclamation point, I don't know what does.

So we've had a couple days to think about this madness, what with the White Sox having had yesterday off.  And they needed a day off to rest and recuperate.  And so did we.  I've had time to consider this, and my time has taught me that if my actions indeed have any bearing on how the Sox play, then I need to be more positive.  And so the last bad thing I'll say is this: we did drop three of four to Tampa, but the Rays are a good team this year.  That's all I'll say.

Now we have the opportunity to start anew with this seven-game homestand.  First KC is coming to town for three games, then we have Minnesota for another four.  

The Royals are drawing up the rear in the AL Central, but don't let their ugly 23-34 record fool you.  They have a decent ball club, and they have a couple of talented young players, and some solid veterans too.  And with Zack Greinke taking the mound, you just know that the White Sox hitters are going to have to be on their game.  This is a big comeback game for the Sox.  Kansas City comes into this game having won two games straight against Cleveland (of course, they did drop 12 straight before that, but that's beside the point).  They have momentum on their side, and the White Sox have now lost three straight.  That's not negative, it's just the case.

So we had a great run.

During those eight games I didn't want to post anything, because I was too afraid to change the team's luck flow.  Try as I may, I can never shake myself of the inkling-- if not the wishful thought-- that my behavior somehow affects how the White Sox play.  I imagine most fans feel that way, at least every now and then.

So I do what I can.  I change from my grey Sox hat to my green one, then stop wearing the hat altogether.  I wear a White Sox shirt under my jersey when I watch the games, I wear a plain shirt, I wear no under shirt, I wear no shirt at all.  When I go to the games I always play the Split, because once they won when I did that.  I don't watch that little home run derby they have at the Fundamentals Deck, I get a brat in the third inning-- in short, as I said, I do all that I can.  But, alas, my actions don't mean a thing.

Well, there's so much to discuss.

First of all, I want to take a moment to just be happy that we've won five in a row.  That's awesome, and nothing can take just that away from us now.  I'm not saying anything has turned around.  I'm not saying that the season from here on out will be peanuts and crackerjacks.  I'm not saying that we have nothing to worry about.  I'm just saying it's nice to have won five games in a row.

And I'm also saying that I'm excited to go to the game tomorrow night.  Not because I think we'll win-- understand, I'm not making predictions here, not yet-- but because I really just love going to games.  Is there anything better than the anticipation right before a baseball game you're seeing live?  I don't know about you, but I get goosebumps from hearing even a terrible band covering "Thunderstruck," and the "Pirates" movies always disappoint me because, well, they're not baseball.

Well, we won a game.  We ought to start feeling better about this team, don't you think so?  Well, the relevant question, actually, is do you feel better about it?

All I know is, I'm not convinced.

Look, here's the deal.  We've got a team that has some pretty decent talent.  We have some great fielders-- our infield should be virtually impenetrable on the left side (Crede and Cabrera), and we're decent on the right.  We have the (relative) speed and versatility of Quentin and Swisher (and, on occasion, Brian Anderson), and the canon attached to a human body that is Jermaine Dye.  Not only that, but look at the hitters we're supposed to have.  Jermaine, Paulie, and Thome can all hit the ball several hundred miles, and Crede and Quentin could easily provide the extra run support every team needs.
