Bullpen Bull....

Well, there's so much to discuss.

First of all, I want to take a moment to just be happy that we've won five in a row.  That's awesome, and nothing can take just that away from us now.  I'm not saying anything has turned around.  I'm not saying that the season from here on out will be peanuts and crackerjacks.  I'm not saying that we have nothing to worry about.  I'm just saying it's nice to have won five games in a row.

And I'm also saying that I'm excited to go to the game tomorrow night.  Not because I think we'll win-- understand, I'm not making predictions here, not yet-- but because I really just love going to games.  Is there anything better than the anticipation right before a baseball game you're seeing live?  I don't know about you, but I get goosebumps from hearing even a terrible band covering "Thunderstruck," and the "Pirates" movies always disappoint me because, well, they're not baseball.

When you think about it that way, it sounds like it should be easy to say something like, "I'm done being negative."

Maybe, maybe not (if you knew me or my family, you'd most likely say "not").  The only sure thing is, again, that we've won five in a row.  And why not bask in the afterglow of that sentence just for a few minutes?

Seriously... I'll wait.

Done basking?  If not, feel free to continue.  Even if it isn't going to be about the White Sox, just bask.  I gues I can't speak for anyone but myself, but it seems to me that people in general don't do nearly enough basking.  I can only attest to the fact that it's true of me.

But back to the ChiSox.  It was just about this time last year, wasn't it?  That terrible stretch of games?  We couldn't pitch out of an inning to save our lives.  The bullpen was horrendous, and our offense didn't provide much support anyway.

I'm not going to talk about offensive woes.  While they are certainly still on all of our minds, I would rather believe that that was the past, and the current trend of scoring just enough runs is going to continue.  Why would I rather believe that?  Because I refuse to go through another stretch like last season.  I just refuse.  So it won't be that way.

But like I said, it was at this time last season that the bullpen really fell apart.  And, unfortunately, we got a taste of that last night, didn't we?  So what is this bull with the pen?  Are we going to get ourselves together, or are we going to just be unpredictable, inconsistent?

We need a solid bullpen, a number of arms we can rely on in a bad situation.  It seemed like Octavio Dotel could potentially be one of those guys.  What do you think?  He got us out of a couple of jams, didn't he?

There's so much more I'd like to say.  I want to talk about Matt Thornton and what's going on with him.  I REALLY want to talk about Bobby Jenks and why he can't ever make a save look easy.  I want to talk about that dreadful feeling I get whenever we're down by even a single run.

But my sister has a choral concert, and I am seriously excited to go.

So there will be more on this stuff later.  Until then: relax, take off your shoes... you know the rest.
