¡Andale Andale!

Jerry Owens seems to think that not only is he going to earn himself the starting center fielder spot but he is going to steal 65 bases. Sound ridiculous? Not too ridiculous. He has increased his total every year through the minors: 30, 38, 40, and had a combined 56 last year between Charlotte and the Sox. Scotty Pods had 59 in 05 so if the kid even comes close to his goal that means we’ve got that whole lead off problem taken care of. That also means, without him saying as much, that he’s got to hit a lot higher than the .267 he gave us last year. For the fantasy folks this might be a good sleeper pick. I’m sure he’ll be around pretty late.

Everybody’s been jabbering about Ozzie and the “no more Mr. Nice Guy” stuff he’s been giving the press over the last week. He was a little lacking in the on camera attitude last season, I could take some entertainment, whether it produces wins or not. Preferably with the wins.

Hey remember when the Sox went through that phase where they wanted to overpay overfed pitchers? Guys like David Wells and Bartolo Colon? Yeah well apparently they are on the way to bringing Colon back again. I know what you’re thinking: this is even more ridiculous than Jerry Owens turning in a Rickey Henderson year on the basepaths. Well it’s not. It’s slightly less ridiculous. If we have the money to give the guy, and one would like to think that he won’t be asking too much with all the wear and tear. We could really use the help in that starting 5. As long as they’re not trying to plug him in up top he’s a boost. Definitely better than a Floyd/Danks 4 and 5. That has the potential to be ugly. For you Spanish speakers Impacto Deportivo claims it’s already a done deal pending physical. They also report that it came as a result of a visit from Ozzie Guillen and he denies it ever happened so I guess we’ll have to see. Like I said though, John Danks. John Danks.
