Okay, so I was wrong about the Skins, Jim Zorn's ultra simplistic west coast offense is catching on and maybe that defensive strategy isn't as bad as I thought. Then again, every D Coordinator has a good game every now and then(See Steve Sidwell's demolition of Michael Vick game plan in 2002). The Skins have the right personnel to deal with the Cowboys, physical, big, strong corners that excel in man coverage. In their previous scheme, due to all the blitzing and crowding the line, they were often left on an island with very little help. Now, with timely blitz schemes, they are getting help from linebackers and safeties that they didn't have before. The Cowboys game plan wasn't the best, but the Skins did a good job of disrupting their rhythm. Regardless, Jason Witten is the best patch catching tight end in years, and yes he's better than Tony Gonzalez.

With the MLB playoffs set to begin, there is a subtle difference in the air compared to start of any other postseason. In the NHL, fans can potentially look forward to a great Canadians/Bruins series that is not only exciting, but has a historical kick to it. Likewise basketball fans always have the chance to see if the Suns can finally get past the Spurs and football fans love seeing the rivalry of the Eagles Vs the City of Philadelphia when the Eagles so much as get tackled for a loss.

What strikes me about the Dallas Cowboys is that they have fun. What was the last great offense that looked fun? The Rams? THe Patriots seemed to destroy teams out of anger, the Colts as the means of their profession, the Seahawks of 2003-2005 were always burdened by expectations to be better. The Rams had fun, and Dallas has fun. Its like watching that high school team filled with great athletes, they know they are great, and they enjoy being great. The thing with these teams is when the playoffs roll around and things get tight, and defenses punch them in the mouth, how good are they really going to be? When Dallas travels to Philly later in the year? Do you really think the Eagles are going to spend another four quarters playing an umbrella defense? They will try and rip Romo's throat out, can the Cowboys respond well to be attacked? They haven't won a playoff game in years.

Along with the rest of the Mariner community on this site (and Seattle fans across the NW) I've been howling for the head of Bill Bavasi, and that chorus of angry villagers only became more raucous as the Ms have stumbled to the worst record in baseball this season, and the siege on Castle Frankenstein had begun. Miraculously, Mariner management saw the light (or perhaps the flickering torches) and fired Bavasi yesterday, a move that began joyous celebrations across the tri-state area.
